Hazy Black Watercolor Paintings of Children with Animals

Indonesia-based watercolor artist Elicia Edijanto (previously here and here) depicts loving relationships between wildlife and children set against atmospheric backdrops painted in black watercolor. “My subject are often children and animal because they are honest, sincere, unprejudiced and unpretentious,” shares Edijanto. “They give me so much inspiration for [a] particular mood or atmosphere, such as tranquility, solemnity, and also wilderness and freedom, which I put on my paintings.” Seen here are a number of recent paintings from the last year or so, some of which are available as prints and originals via her website. You can follow her works in progress on Instagram.

Marina Abramović and ULAY - Rest Energy, 1980

“In “Rest Energy” we actually hold one arrow on the way to our own body. An arrow is pointing to my heart.

We have two small, little microphones on our hearts where we can hear the sounds of the heart beating. As the performance is progressing, heartbeats become more and more intense.

It’s just four minutes and ten seconds, but for me it was forever. So it was really a performance about complete and total trust.”

Lines in the Sand by Jim Denevan

A sand artist and surfer Jim Denevan from Santa Cruz, California, creates temporary drawings on sand and earth, that are eventually erased by waves and weather. What started as a hobby over 20 years ago has resulted in worldwide recognition. These drawings range in scale from smaller beach compositions to large scale land works the size of a city. Jim’s artwork is performed primarily outside in California but also many other locations around the world.
